No one can and will ever sing this classic like the icon and legend, Donna Summer RIP ❤️ And Target used it for its holiday commercials. They could have at least used the original, and ask Giorgio Moroder, Pete Bellotte or her estate for the rights. 🎄 It’s not even a holiday song. Sam has a great voice, just not this remake.

Firstly, in order to faithfully reproduce a song, you need to carefully study the original. That being said, the music sounds wonderful, faithfully honoring the terrific collaboration of the great Donna Summer with the brilliant Georgio Moroder, while adding some subtle sonic embellishments like modern vocal stutter effects. What is largely overlooked here is that, with this recording, Sam Smith is also introducing the music of the late Donna Summer, to a whole new generation of listeners, which is indeed commendable. If you love the original more, by all means listen to it, but this is an excellent effort, that unfortunately seems to be polarizing for some. While I love the original, I also feel that this is an excellent recording, and yes it is possible to enjoy more than one version of a song! Bravo, and kudos to Sam Smith, well done!
